I am originally from Austria and moved in 1969 to Australia via South Africa (where I spent 5 years) . As a young man I developed an interest and love for gemstones and minerals. This in turn led to my study of the subject . Much of my spare time was spent fossicking for emeralds in an area of the Austrian Alps (The Habachtal, the only known location of emeralds in Europe) .
I worked for a short while in Sydney, Australia but soon left to follow my passion on the Central Queensland Gemfields .There I started mining for sapphires on a small scale. Over a number of years I expanded to a medium sized mechanical operation.
1970: Descent into Sapphire mine
Once established and all was going well I began a gold mining venture. The life was rough but made bearable by the fact that I was doing what I loved most, searching for gemstones and gold.
In 1976 came a very lucky break. I found one of the most exciting sapphires in the history of gem mining in Australia. A 396 carat golden yellow sapphire of exceptional quality, superb in colour, and clarity, no inclusions or silk and a perfect compact shape. I named this gem : THE AUSTRALIAN SUN. It was cut by experts into an unbelievable gem, oval in shape of 170.86 carats. See pictures on the right.
1974: Sapphire recovery plant
From this time onwards I began to concentrate on obtaining fine gemstones from around the world to add to my private collection.
Rubies ,Sapphires of all colours, Tanzanite, Tsavorite, Tourmaline, Garnet, Aquamarine , Amethyst, Topaz, Peridot, Zircon and many others. I am retired now and have decided the time has come to sell my collection.
As high quality material is becoming rare and costly, this is the perfect opportunity to obtain high quality gems at realistic prices. Many gems are accompanied by a gem report issued by GRS (www.gemresearch.ch) based in Switzerland. Leading jewellers and auctioneers use this well known and trusted laboratory.
